HOMEBIRTH SERVICES
Our Philosophy and Practice
At Talk Story Midwifery, we provide personalized care and nutritional counseling during pregnancy and post-partum. We provide natural therapies to treat the normal discomforts of pregnancy using diet, herbs, homeopathy, exercise and relaxation techniques. Our home office setting provides a comfortable environment to facilitate open communication. We help you plan a safe and satisfying birth experience.
Miriam has had five children of her own and has been assisting women with births since 1974. She has had extensive training in waterbirth, natural medicine, and homeopathy and has trained with both midwives and medical doctors. In addition, Miriam appears in the PBS documentary "And Baby Makes Two".
During your pregnancy, Miriam follows the standard of care in the community by keeping a complete and accurate record of your prenatal visits and laboratory tests done throughout your pregnancy. Prenatal visits are scheduled once a month until 28 weeks, then twice a month until 36 weeks and weekly until you start labor. She consults with your friendly obstetrician for advice when needed. This approach helps to ensure a healthy outcome.
After your birth, Miriam provides postpartum care which includes three home visits to assist you with breastfeeding. Post partum care also includes: performing the newborn metabolic screen, arranging your baby's hearing test, sending the birth record to the obstetrician and pediatrician of your choice, and registering your birth with the Department of Health so you can receive a copy of the birth certificate.
Knowledge, experience, and patience.
Testimonials
Thanks to Miriam and Thauna, the birth of my child will always be remembered as a wonderful and spiritual experience. Because I was able to have a natural water birth at home, I was able to experience my child coming into this world in the ultimate way. The water helped ease my pain during labor and allowed my child to enter the world gently. Being at home gave me the privacy and sacredness I hoped for." - J. & L. T.
